In case you ever wanted to know absolutely everything about Ao’s chassis, here’s a quick rundown! (also I was way overdue for a proper ref sheet of her anyway)

In short: Ao is essentially what’s known as a bio-droid, a human brain piloting an android body, built to perform basic everyday tasks for people with terminal illnesses, full-body disabilities and crippling deformities. Those deformities started becoming especially common just as space travel and colonization itself boomed, thanks to the births of the first generation of children whose parents were subject to zero-gravity and cosmic radiation. Whatever the true cause, the result was children who never fully developed in the womb, and whose bodies  could not survive the outside world.

To answer this crisis, the Bioforge Corporation was the first to invent the common biofusion connector that allowed human minds to interface with robotic limbs, as well as mass-producing a line of bio-droid chasses for them to inhabit, while preserving their original physical organisms and providing life support. Since many children have occupied these chasses from birth, they have never know anything but their artificial bodies.

One of those children was Aoyama, who spent the first dozen years of her life hopping from one bionic body to another, until she decided to build her own once she had the technical know-how and resources. With her own modifications to the Bioforce Corporation specifications, her body is able to swap parts when needed, handle the toughest workloads, and even interface wirelessly with her other mechanical creations.

Not bad for something she cooked up before she was old enough to drive.

Reminds me of the Brainship idea that has been in science fiction for quite awhile. Is her brain actually in the chassis, or is it just remote controlled?
